South Carolina football losing another receiver to transfer portal

For the fifth time in two days, a South Carolina wide receiver popped up among the Gamecocks expected to hit the transfer portal when it officially opens on Monday.

Just hours after O’Mega Blake joined that group Friday, another local receiver, Zavier Short, is now expected to enter his name in the transfer portal, The State confirmed.

Short, who graduated as the all-time leading receiver at Chapin High School, struggled to find a role in his two seasons with the Gamecocks, playing in just a single game.

A one-time Appalachian State commitment and former three-star receiver, Short quickly transitioned to tight end in Columbia before moving back to receiver.

He will transfer with three years of eligibility remaining.

Including defensive tackle Xzavier McLeod, who left the program midseason, that makes 11 from USC’s 2023 roster who are expected to enter the portal.

As the roster stands now, Luke Doty (13 grabs) is the team’s leading returning receiver, followed by Nyck Harbor (11).

Projected transfer portal departures

QB: Tanner Bailey, Colten Gauthier

WR: Juice Wells, O’Mega Blake, Landon Samson, Zavier Short, Kylic Horton

DT: Xzavier McLeod, Felix Hixon

Edge: Donovan Westmoreland

PK: Mitch Jeter
