South Carolina lands transfer WR from Coastal Carolina

After losing receiver after receiver over the past few weeks, South Carolina has landed reinforcement.

On Monday, Coastal Carolina transfer wide receiver Jared Brown told On3 that he is committing to the Gamecocks. He was the second commitment for USC on Monday. JUCO defensive lineman Jerome Simmons also announced he was headed for USC.

“It was the right fit for me because they made me feel like I was at home as soon as I walked on campus,” Brown told On3 Sports’ Pete Nakos. “The staff was great and they took care of me during my visit. This is a place I can see myself playing at and making life-long relationships.”

The 6-foot, 190-pound pass catcher will enroll at South Carolina with two seasons of eligibility following a solid career for the Chanticleers. Last season, the Georgia native caught 58 passes for 740 yards and four touchdowns.

According to Nakos, Brown had visits set up with Louisville and Auburn but canceled after spending the weekend in Columbia on a visit.

The news is very welcome for a South Carolina squad that has lot plenty of bodies from its wide receivers room.

The Gamecocks lost leading receiver Xavier Legette to the NFL Draft. Ditto for Ahmarean Brown. Though the transfer portal departures were headlined by Juice Wells, the Gamecocks also lost O’Mega Blake, Kylic Horton, Landon Samson and Zavier Short.
