Shane Beamer was asked about USC coaching staff changes. Here’s how he responded
On a day when Shane Beamer was celebrating the South Carolina football’s high school signees and transfer portal additions, the Gamecocks’ coach also addressed the state of his coaching staff.
Asked Wednesday whether or not things would remain “status quo” regarding his assistant coaches, here’s how Beamer responded:
“Those are things that we’re continuing to look at and evaluate. I’ve had some conversations with some people already,” Beamer said. “Our focus this month has been recruiting and that’s what it is right now. It’s my job as the head coach to always look at everything we’re doing, starting with me.
“If there’s ways to be better, (I’m) certainly willing to make those decisions. Those are all still things we are going through.”
The Gamecocks are coming off a 5-7 season, a mark that Beamer is still fuming over. To begin his signing day press conference on Wednesday, despite his excitement in the recruiting class, he was still frustrated the Gamecocks weren’t practicing for a bowl game.
“For me personally, this is the first time in 16 seasons that I’m not getting ready for a bowl game — 16 seasons,” Beamer said. “That’s not OK and never will be around here. I’m not happy and it’s my job top fix it.”
Beamer has spoken at length about how South Carolina needs to correct things from 2023. It is still to be seen if — or, how many — staff changes that includes.
Dowell Loggains (QBs/offensive coordinator), Lonnie Teasley (offensive line) and Travian Robertson (defensive line) were all additions Beamer made to the 10-member assistant staff after the 2022 season.
