SEC scheduling news: Alabama, Oklahoma coming to face USC at Williams-Brice in 2025

South Carolina football is a few months away from kicking off its 2024 season. Now we know that the 2025 season, especially at home, is going to be a big one for the Gamecocks.

Powerhouse brands and conference foes Alabama and Oklahoma will make trips to Williams-Brice Stadium in 2025, the Southeastern Conference announced Wednesday as it released conference matchups for next year. The league also said it’s sticking to an eight-game conference schedule, for now, and teams will play the same conference opponents in 2025 that they do in 2024. They’ll just flip the host sites.

That means Oklahoma, Alabama, Vanderbilt and Kentucky will be coming to Columbia, while Gamecocks will travel to LSU, Ole Miss, Texas A&M and Missouri. It will be the first time Oklahoma will play a game at Williams-Brice Stadium.

Alabama hasn’t played at USC since 2019.

“We continue to monitor changes across college sports as they relate to future scheduling,” SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said in a release. “Continuing with our current format for the 2025 season provides additional time to understand the impact of the changes happening around us as we determine the appropriate long-term plan for SEC football scheduling.”

The 2025 season will likely be the last year SEC plays an eight-game schedule. Many national analysts believe the conference will go to a nine-game schedule starting in 2026.

Staying with the same conference schedule also means there’s no Georgia, Florida or Tennessee on the Gamecocks’ schedule until at least 2026. Dates for the 2025 games will be announced at a later time.

South Carolina already has three non-conference games lined up for 2025, including opening the season against Virginia Tech on Aug. 31 or Sept. 1 at the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The Gamecocks also will host Coastal Carolina and rival Clemson.

For 2024, the Gamecocks kick off the season Aug. 31 at home against Old Dominion.
