Chuck Allen: Improved defense, consistent offense could mean 8 or 9 wins for USC
50 Opinions, Day 38: Between now and the season-opener against North Carolina on Sept. 3, we will ask 50 people: “What do you think about the Gamecocks in 2015?” We’re counting down the days until kickoff. Today’s panelist is Chuck Allen, a former Gamecocks player:
“Will be better on defense. Will definitely tackle better. Defensive effort and organization should be much improved. Skai Moore and Jonathan Walton will be outstanding at linebacker. Secondary and defensive line will be better. Marquavius Lewis will have an immediate impact at defensive end. Offensively, lots of moving parts. Brandon Wilds and David Williams are superlative running backs. Offensive line can be outstanding but may take a few games for it to become settled. Pharoh Cooper is the best receiver, all-purpose back in the SEC. Jerell Adams is an NFL tight end. If quarterback play is consistent, offense could really do well. Verdict: 8 or 9 wins.”
