Former Gamecock Munnerlyn glad flag taken down
Former South Carolina cornerback Captain Munnerlyn considers the Confederate flag to be a symbol of racism, so he was glad to see it taken down from the statehouse grounds earlier this month.
"I'm kind of glad it's over with and the state can move forward,” Munnerlyn told the St. Paul Pioneer Press. “At the end of the day, we're all equal.''
When Munnerlyn arrived at USC in 2006, he thought it was “weird seeing (the flag)” so close to campus.
Munnerlyn is now with the Minnesota Vikings after playing with the Carolina Panthers from 2009-13.
Panthers owner Jerry Richardson, a Spartanburg native, donated $100,000 to families of the Charleston shooting victims.
"I was very nice of Mr. Richardson,'' Munnerlyn said. "He's a class act.''
