Injury report, top storylines for the game

  • Injury report: These players were included in South Carolina’s SEC-mandated availability report Thursday night: OUT — Jared Brown (WR), Kelvin Hunter (DB), Jakai Moore (OL), Jalewis Solomon (DB), DeAndre Jules (DT)

  • Can the Gamecocks eliminate self-inflicted wounds?: South Carolina is the most penalized team in the SEC to date, averaging 8.2 per game. The Gamecocks have also lost the most yards per game because of penalties at 72.2. Coach Shane Beamer said Tuesday that “the penalties make me sick. But penalties are gonna happen. It’s the pre-snap penalties that make you want to throw up.”
  • Playing with a vengeance: One of the main questions heading into Saturday’s game is how Alabama will respond after losing to unranked Vanderbilt last week. Many theorize the Crimson Tide will come out angry and looking to redeem the upset. But South Carolina also feels like it has something to prove after its abysmal 27-3 loss to Ole Miss. USC linebacker Demetrius Knight Jr. said Tuesday that South Carolina and Alabama are “two teams itching to get back on the field,” and that the Gamecocks will have to “put the noise behind” them.
