South Carolina’s Mazeo Bennett ruled out after apparent injury vs. Texas A&M
South Carolina will be without one of its top receivers for the rest of Saturday’s game against Texas A&M.
Freshman Mazeo Bennett left the game late in the second quarter after being tackled by Texas A&M defensive back BJ Mayes. Bennett was tackled down by the head, landed awkwardly on the ground and looked like he twisted his leg as well.
ABC reporter Molly McGrath reported after halftime that Bennett would be out the rest of the game. South Carolina won 44-20.
“When a guy gets hit near the head and can’t walk off on his own, you should get a targeting or face-mask call,” ABC’s Molly McGrath said, quoting Beamer.
McGrath said Beamer told her he plans to send the play to Southeastern Conference officiating office.
Beamer after the game said Bennett had an “upper body injury” but was in the locker room celebrating the win.
Earlier, Bennett was shown on the TV broadcast, being held up by athletic trainers as he made his way back to the locker room. The Greenville High product had two catches and 19 yards in the first half.
Bennett has emerged as one of Gamecocks’ top targets in the 2024 season and came into the game with 19 catches for a team-high 270 yards and three touchdowns.
