Where South Carolina football stands in bowl predictions after big win over Texas A&M
Bowl prospects for South Carolina football are getting better after the 44-20 win over No. 10 Texas A&M on Saturday.
The Gamecocks (5-3) still need one more win to be bowl-eligible and can get that this weekend at Vanderbilt. USC closes out the season at home against Missouri and Wofford before heading to Clemson.
Action Network’s Brett McMurphy has the Gamecocks’ going to Tampa for the ReliaQuest Bowl on Dec. 31 against Iowa (formerly the Outback Bowl).
ESPN’s Mark Schlabach and Kyle Bonagura each have the Gamecocks headed to the Texas Bowl in Houston on New Year’s Eve against Big 12 opponent Texas Tech, which knocked off previously unbeaten Iowa State this weekend.
CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm still has the Gamecocks headed to the Las Vegas Bowl on Dec. 27 against Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes of the Big 12.
The Sporting News has the Gamecocks going to Memphis for the Liberty Bowl on Dec. 27 to face Big 12 Kansas State.
Athlon Sports has USC going to Nashville for the Music City Bowl on Dec. 30 against Big Ten opponent Illinois. 247Sports also has the Gamecocks going to Nashville but to face Michigan.
“There were representatives from the Citrus and Gator Bowl at Williams Brice Stadium for Saturday night’s win over Texas A&M, which means the Gamecocks could move up in the SEC’s bowl pecking order if this streak continues next week at Vanderbilt,” 247Sports’ Brad Crawford wrote.
The Southeastern Conference has automatic tie-ins with seven bowls this year after picks for the college football playoffs are settled. SEC bowl tie-ins are: the Citrus Bowl, Liberty Bowl, Las Vegas Bowl, ReliaQuest Bowl, Texas Bowl, Gator Bowl and Music City Bowl.
The Citrus Bowl gets its pick of the top SEC team available after the playoff bracket is announced. The rest of the bowls will be assigned by the SEC.
The SEC also has affiliations with the Birmingham Bowl and Gasparilla Bowl, if needed.
