USC video after Texas A&M win set social media record, and it wasn’t from field storming
Shane Beamer knew he wanted to do something special for his wife’s birthday if South Carolina football defeated Texas A&M on Saturday. He had no idea it would cause this much attention.
After the Gamecocks defeated the 10th-ranked Aggies on Saturday night, Beamer brought wife Emily into the locker room and asked his players for their help singing, noting that “we ain’t singing, ‘Happy birthday.’ “
So the music blared and Beamer and Gamecocks together sang Fantasia’s “When I See You” song for Emily in the locker room.
“It was a plan for sure if we won the game because I knew it was her birthday coming up as well. That song I have been hearing our players sing it from time to time at practice going all the way back to last season,” Beamer said Monday on “SEC This Morning.” “... But Saturday night was the perfect time with her birthday coming up this Thursday as well. The energy in that locker room was sky high, so it was set up perfect.
“... It has been pretty neat hearing from recruits, recruits‘ parents or some of our current players’ dads that have been texting me mad at me because I set the bar high for them and their wives as well. But it goes back to our players. We’ve got an awesome group of people and that was on display on the field and on display with that postgame celebration in the locker room.”
The social media post, which carried the tag line “And they say romance is dead” has garnered over 2.7 million views on the Gamecock Football X (formerly Twitter) account plus has been posted on their Instagram account as well.
Beamer said he was told that it was the most watched video in history of the team X account, which was started in July of 2010.
Fantasia, the song’s singer, even shared the Beamer clip on her Instagram to her 5.7 million followers.
