Former five-star D-tackle, SEC transfer signs with South Carolina from portal
South Carolina just added one of the most-prized prospects from the recruiting Class of 2022.
On Wednesday, Texas A&M transfer defensive tackle Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy announced on Instagram he committed to the Gamecocks after playing sparingly in his three seasons with the Aggies. South Carolina confirmed his signing shortly after his announcement.
One of eight five-star prospects that was a part of the loaded 2022 Texas A&M recruiting class, Brownlow-Dindy was ranked as the No. 5 defensive lineman in the nation, the No. 17 recruit nationally and the second-best player coming out of the state of Florida.
Yet he played in just eight games in three seasons, totaling four tackles and three tackles for loss. In Texas A&M’s season finale against Texas, Brownlow-Dindy was listed as a backup on the Aggies’ depth chart but didn’t play. In fact, he didn’t play in a single SEC game this year.
At 6-foot-3, 310 pounds, Brownlow-Dindy — who comes to USC with two years of eligibility remaining — has elite size but hasn’t been able to showcase that at the collegiate level just yet.
Still, South Carolina needs bodies at defensive tackle with the possibility its top three D-tackles won’t return in 2025. Alex “Boogie” Huntley and Tonka Hemingway — both out of eligibility — for sure won’t be back and redshirt junior T.J. Sanders could declare for the NFL Draft, where some experts believe he could be a first-rounder.
The Gamecocks added 20 portal players after the 2024 season and have four locked in so far this cycle.
