South Carolina picks up tight end transfer from rival SEC program
South Carolina football landed a transfer commitment from one of its Southeastern Conference rivals on Wednesday.
Kentucky tight end Jordan Dingle is going to transfer to the Gamecocks, he posted on his social media accounts. On3’s Pete Nakos was the first to report the news. USC also announced his signing as being official.
Dingle entered the transfer portal on Dec. 5. It was the second year he entered the portal, but he decided to return to Kentucky after last season. He has one more year of eligibility left.
Dingle, who was born in Manning, was recruited by South Carolina coming out of high school and offered him in June of 2019. He also had offers from Purdue, Ohio State and Northwestern, among others.
The 6-foot-4 Dingle has played four seasons at Kentucky and had 43 catches for 615 yards and four touchdowns.
Tight end is a spot the Gamecocks need to replace depth. Josh Simon, the team’s leading receiver, is graduating. Three other tight ends from this year’s roster, Nick Elksnis, Connor Cox and Reid Mikeska, announced they were transferring.
The Gamecocks will return Michael Smith, who saw time as a freshman, Brady Hunt and incoming freshman Michael Tyler at the position.
