South Carolina on Monday signed a transfer portal linebacker with experience at Florida State and Alabama.

Shawn Murphy (6-3, 225) of Manassas, Virginia joins a Gamecocks portal class that currently totals five members.

He played in four games for the Seminoles in 2024 as a redshirt sophomore after dealing with an injury. He recorded 13 tackles (1.5 for loss). All of his appearances came in the final four games of the year.

He’s expected to have at least two years of college eligibility remaining.

He originally signed with Alabama out of high school as a four-star prospect and a top 100 national recruit. He played in 18 games over two seasons with the Crimson Tide with five tackles and a pass breakup.

The Gamecocks needed to add players at the linebacker spot this portal cycle. Top linebackers Debo Williams, Demetrius Knight Jr and Bam Martin-Scott are all out of eligibility after the 2024 season wraps up.

South Carolina briefly had a commitment from Grambling State linebacker Andrew Jones, but he flipped his pledge to Ole Miss on Friday.
