Gamecocks QB watch: Four candidates under consideration
Wash, rinse, repeat.
“We’ll chart it up, sort of let you know how they did later on,” South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier said after Tuesday’s first practice of preseason camp. “But they did OK, they did pretty well.”
Spurrier was talking about the Gamecocks’ quarterback battle. Connor Mitch, Perry Orth, Michael Scarnecchia and Lorenzo Nunez stand on equal ground and should for the immediate future.
Spurrier said that every QB took an equal amount of snaps. The main difference now than in years past is every time a quarterback drops back, he’s being monitored.
Graduate assistants or quality control coaches chart everything. Dylan Thompson or Connor Shaw never had to be charted because USC knew what they could do, and that barring injury, they would start.
Not so now. This story will develop over the next 2-3 weeks.
“Quarterback battle is going on and like I told them, we’re charting everything,” Spurrier said. “We turned into a bunch of charters around here.”
