South Carolina surprises in-state walk-on linebacker with scholarship
Another former walk-on is now on scholarship with the South Carolina football team.
Senior Colin Bryant, who has played on special teams and at linebacker, earned a scholarship from the Gamecocks. South Carolina posted a video Wednesday on social media of Bryant getting the news that he would go on scholarship.
In the video, USC receiver Mazeo Bennett delivered the news about Bryant in a meeting after the two players took part in an exercise about learning their teammates. USC players mobbed Bryant after the news was delivered.
“Thank you so much coach,” Bryant said as he hugged USC coach Shane Beamer.
Bryant is an in-state product after playing at Wando High School in Mount Pleasant. He walked on at Alabama after high school before joining the Gamecocks the following season in 2022.
Bryant has appeared in 21 games for the Gamecocks, including all 13 last season. He has been a big contributor on special teams and recovered an onside kick against his former team Alabama.
Bryant had six tackles last season.
