USC QB Watch: Freshman Nunez gets in extra work

The quarterbacks remain even but unseen … until Saturday.

Saturday’s open practice will give fans and media the first chance to see Connor Mitch, Perry Orth, Michael Scarnecchia and Lorenzo Nunez in action. It’s also a chance to see them in full pads, although they will of course be protected in the full team drills.

Steve Spurrier and G.A. Mangus have been consistent in talking about the QBs. All are on equal footing and all have a chance to play. Mangus said Friday that everybody continued to evenly split repetitions, although Nunez did some extra work in a “young guys” session at the end of practice.

It may be the only opportunity to see the QBs (although Periscoping for future views is forbidden). The Gamecocks have some scrimmages left on the schedule but thus far they have not been announced as open.
