Tommy Moody: USC defense must get back to stopping people
Between now and the season-opener against North Carolina on Sept. 3, we will ask 50 people: “What do you think about the Gamecocks in 2015?” We’re counting down the days until kickoff. Today’s panelist is Tommy Moody, former Gamecocks baseball player and radio personality on 107.5 The Game:
“I'm cautiously optimistic. After what happened last year, I think folks are a little gun-shy about predicting great things. Both football and baseball were preseason top 10, and things didn’t work out. But I truly believe we have the greatest collection of coaches ever in the athletics department and quite a leader in Ray Tanner. The football team must get that defensive identity back, because the offense is a question mark due to the lack of experience. But the recruiting has always been good, if not spectacular, of late. So, because of the overall talent level, I think we can win our share. I feel that nine wins without a win over Clemson will be excellent. If the Gamecocks can beat the Tigers but only win eight games, that’s still very acceptable, considering the competition. So, I guess what I am saying is … that last game is a monster, as always. The folks in this state wouldn’t have it any other way. I have always been a guy who loves pitchers’ duels in baseball, in-your-face defense in basketball ... and defensive tug-a-wars in football. So let’s get back to STOPPIN PEOPLE in football and win some games.”
