SEC quarterbacks dish on South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers
LaNorris Sellers burst onto the scene during his first year as starting quarterback for South Carolina last season.
He earned SEC Freshman of the Year and All-SEC third-team honors after tallying over 3,200 total yards and 25 total touchdowns, all while leading his home-state Gamecocks to a 9-4 record.
Sellers enters the 2025 season with plenty of buzz surrounding him. He’s even mentioned among the preseason Heisman talk.
Sellers was one of 11 quarterbacks representing their respective schools at SEC Media Days in Atlanta this week.
The State asked five of the quarterbacks for their evaluation of Sellers’ talents: LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier, Ole Miss’ Austin Simmons, Vanderbilt’s Diego Pavia, Georgia’s Gunner Stockton and Auburn’s Jackson Arnold.
Sellers dueled with Nussmeier, Pavia and Arnold (who was at Oklahoma at the time) last season. He also attended the Manning Passing Academy this summer alongside Nussmeier, Simmons and Stockton. Here’s what they had to say:
LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier
“He’s an unbelievable player. His ability to extend plays and make plays outside the pocket is special. And also I think some people don’t realize how good of a passer he is as well. He’s a pure thrower of the football. He can rip it. He’s a great dude as well. Getting to spend time with him as well at the Manning camp, get to know him as well. Another player I’m excited to watch this year. Hope he has a great season.”
Ole Miss QB Austin Simmons
“His game speaks for himself. He’s definitely a unique player. He has great size on him, obviously. He’s a great runner. He’s a great passer. He’s just really good all around.”
Vanderbilt QB Diego Pavia
“I think he’s a crazy talent. One, his athleticism is just different. He’s got God-given talent. He’s 6-foot-3, 240 or something. And so that kid is gifted. Then you see him on the field. He breaks tackles and he’s a good thrower too. We’ll be excited to play him. I know our defense will be excited to play him in game three when it comes.”
Georgia QB Gunner Stockton
“It was great [seeing Sellers at the Manning Passing Academy]. He could spin it. It was great to be around all the quarterbacks out there. That was the neat part just getting to know everybody because through high school you go to camps, but you aren’t around most of them, but it was neat getting to meet everybody and getting to learn.”
Auburn QB Jackson Arnold
“They were a talented squad last year and LaNorris is a fantastic player. He’s going to lead them to be a good team this year.”
