LaNorris Sellers is heading into his second season as the starting quarterback for Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks.

Last year, Sellers’ favorite wide receiver was Nyck Harbor — if you determine his “favorite” by the number of targets according to Pro Football Focus.

Sellers, going into the 2025 season, has a new favorite wide receiver: It’s his brother.

“He’s been my favorite receiver. No bias ... actually it’s a lot of bias,” Sellers told reporters through a laugh. “Just growing up together with him, we already had that chemistry already built.”

South Carolina’s QB1 is, of course, talking about younger sibling, freshman wide receiver Jayden Sellers

The younger Sellers, nicknamed “Puppy,” joined the program for the spring when he enrolled early just like his brother did in 2023.

Jayden Sellers is coming off a stellar senior year at South Florence High School. He helped the Bruins to a 12-3 record and a state championship after racking up 59 catches for 1,016 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also added 485 yards and 10 scores on the ground.

Jayden Sellers, who committed to South Carolina back in 2023, was the pledge for Beamer’s 2025 recruiting class.

This fall will mark the first time the Sellers brothers have shared the field since 2022. That year the duo led South Florence to its first state championship. Jayden caught four passes from his older brother in the title game for 122 yards and two touchdowns.

LaNorris Sellers said he’s looking forward to play alongside his brother again this season and recalled how he and Jayden used to throw in the yard as children.

“Super excited to play with him,” Sellers said. “Last time we played together with him was my senior year, which was three years ago. I was always quarterback. He played pretty much everywhere. And in rec league he played running back, receiver, DB. He played that up until last year, senior year. I think he’s fully receiver now. But that’s all we used to do, throw a deep field run and he’d catch it.”

Jayden Sellers has been with the team since January, and LaNorris said he’s done a good job at adjusting to college ball.

“He had to get used to it in a spring ball so it was a little bit slower for him,” LaNorris Sellers said. “But as he’s growing and coming along, he’s adjusting.”

Jayden Sellers is one of five true freshmen in South Carolina’s wide receiver room this year. The Gamecocks’ receiver group as a whole is relatively young, as just three players are upperclassmen

LaNorris Sellers said he’s seen signs of growth from the young guys at wide receiver since spring. With fall camp under way, that growth can’t come soon enough.

“I’ve seen a lot of growth from January to now,” Sellers said. “Not a lot of time to get them rolling and going because they all have to play this year because we brought back five guys, I think, in the receiver room. ... Everybody has to play. There’s not a lot of time for them to grow and adjust, so we gotta do it and do it fast.”
