Shane Beamer updates South Carolina’s injuries as preseason begins

On the eve of South Carolina’s 2025 fall camp getting started, coach Shane Beamer on Thursday said four players will be on the sideline when the Gamecocks get going.

That quartet is: OL Ryan Brubaker, edge Jaylen Brown (Missouri transfer), freshman DL Caleb Williams and DB Zahbari Sandy.

None of those four were expected to be starters but Brubaker and Brown were both considered to help the Gamecocks depth and perhaps compete for a starting job.

There’s no timetable for anyone’s return, Beamer said.

“It’s not going to be any time in the near future,” he said. “It’s not a short-term thing with those guys.”

As for Williams, a three-star prospect from Virginia, he arrived in Columbia this winter but also missed the entire spring with an injury.

South Carolina’s players reported Thursday for a day full of meetings. They’ll practice for the first time Friday morning.

News and notes

>> Beamer said — as it stands today — QB Luke Doty would be the first QB in if LaNorris Sellers went down.

>> There is no new update regarding the eligibility of transfer running back Rahsul Faison.

>> Redshirt junior Peyton Williams will be in the first unit Friday at safety opposite of DQ Smith, Beamer said. Williams is among the group of defenders working to replace Nick Emmanwori in the lineup at safety.

>> Beamer said one of the biggest points of emphasis for his offense this year is trying to limit turnovers — especially fumbles. Said USC has “tweaked” how they practice ball security.
