LaNorris Sellers delivers heartwarming moment with Frank Beamer after USC win
The postgame scene on a college football field is a sea of handshakes, hugs and adulation. After No. 13 South Carolina’s win over Virginia Tech on Sunday, a moment of sportsmanship and gratitude emerged.
USC quarterback LaNorris Sellers, still celebrating the Gamecocks’ 24-11 victory over the Hokies at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, found legendary Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer, shook his hand and gave him a game ball.
The moment was brief, but it evoked a lot of reaction on social media. An ESPN video clip of Sellers’ gesture had generated over a million views as of Monday morning.
“Sellers is top notch human!!!!!” one person said on Twitter/X.
“Classy!! Top notch all around!!” another person chimed in.
Said another fan: “We’ve got a special one here coach - and I don’t just mean the player on the field. He’s a special human being. We’re so lucky to have him in Columbia.”
Sunday’s game carried the obvious subplot of the Beamer family’s connections to both teams, notably that Shane Beamer played at Virginia Tech and Frank Beamer was the most successful coach in Hokies history. Shane Beamer played under and coached with his dad at Virginia Tech.
Frank and wife Cheryl Beamer were honored before the game, and Frank — wearing a Gamecocks jacket while sporting a Hokies pin — delivered the invocation.
“I was doing pretty good with the emotions until I did my walk and I saw my parents at the end of it,” Shane Beamer said.
At 11 p.m. Sunday, Shane Beamer shared a message of appreciation for his quarterback.
“Thank you @LanorriSellers,” Shane Beamer posted to X/Twitter. “Means so much to our entire family.”
