Two Gamecock starters unlikely to play this week vs. Vanderbilt
In the wake of South Carolina’s 38-10 win over SC State on Saturday, the concern was the health of the Gamecocks (2-0).
A number of USC starters went down with injuries and didn’t finish the game. Afterward, Gamecocks head coach Shane Beamer said, “It’s not good.”
A day later, after No. 11 South Carolina was able to do further evaluation, Beamer was saying he was optimistic that almost everyone would be good to play against Vanderbilt (2-0) on Saturday.
On Wednesday, the Gamecocks had to submit their first student-athlete availability report of the year.
For those unfamiliar: Last season, the SEC implemented something similar to the NFL’s injury report, where coaches have to provide the status for student-athletes on the Wednesday before a conference game.
It is supposed to provide more clarity to fans about who is actually going to play every week.
Here’s who appreared on South Carolina’s availity report this week:
Probable
- DB Brandon Cisse
- DB Vicari Swain
- DB Jaquel Holman
Doubtful
- DB Judge Collier
- TE Brady Hunt
Of the pair of doubtful Gamecocks, Collier was injured in the opener against Virginia Tech and was later seen with a brace on his knee. He was still on crutches as of Saturday.
And Hunt, injured during the S.C. State game, was the one player Beamer did not seem optimistic about.
