Most Gamecocks coaches, fans and staff, current or former, in attendance for South Carolina’s 31-7 loss to Vanderbilt went home thoroughly unhappy Saturday night. Perhaps one man who once donned garnet and black left Williams-Brice Stadium with positive thoughts: former coach Will Muschamp.

Muschamp, currently a coaching free agent, was in attendance in support of his son, Whit Muschamp. Whit is a backup quarterback for Vanderbilt and traveled with the team to Columbia.

Whit Muschamp played high school football at the Baylor School in Tennessee. He was coached by Eric Kimrey, a former Gamecock quarterback and Shane Beamer’s first tight ends coach at USC in 2021. He took the job at the Baylor School after leaving Columbia in 2022.

Will Muschamp coached at South Carolina from 2016-20, going 28-30 before being fired midway through his fifth season with the team.

The other Muschamp son, Jackson, was on the roster at Georgia as quarterback in 2023, meaning both of the Muschamp heirs’ teams won this Saturday. The Bulldogs beat Tennessee on the road 44-41 in overtime.

“Dawgs and Dores!!” Will Muschamp posted to X/Twitter on Saturday night from Williams-Brice with a photo of him, wife Carol and son Whit.
