South Carolina, Clemson both fall out of latest AP Top 25
It wasn’t a good weekend to be a fan of the Palmetto State’s two major college football teams.
South Carolina and Clemson, both ranked in the Top 25 a week ago, lost to unranked opponents on Saturday. The Gamecocks lost 31-7 at home to Vanderbilt, and the Tigers lost 24-21 on the road to Georgia Tech.
As a result, both teams are no longer ranked in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll.
South Carolina was ranked No. 11 last week but fell 17 spots to third among teams in the “others receiving votes” category. The Gamecocks dropped from No. 10 to No. 24 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
Clemson dropped from both major polls entirely. The Tigers — ranked No. 4 in the preseason — were No. 12 in the AP poll going into the weekend but fell to 11th among teams in the “others receiving votes” category. Clemson also fell out of the USA Today Coaches Poll after being ranked No. 11 last week.
The last time Clemson was unranked was a 13-week stretch from September 2023 to December 2023. The Tigers were ranked for 107 straight weeks from 2014 to 2021, and have now been unranked at points of three of the last five seasons since.
South Carolina (2-1) and Clemson (1-2) will be back in action against conference foes next week. The Gamecocks will hit the road to play at ranked Missouri (7 p.m. on ESPN), and the Tigers will face Syracuse at home (noon on ESPN).
