About South Carolina

The Gamecocks are 3-2 on the year and 1-2 in the SEC. USC picked up its first conference win against Kentucky, 35-13, at home on Sept. 27. It marked the first time USC’s offense eclipsed 21 points and 150 rushing yards in SEC play this season. The upcoming matchup against LSU is the Gamecocks’ second SEC road game of the year.

About LSU

The Tigers, led by fourth-year head coach Brian Kelly, started off the year strong with a 4-0 record. LSU’s winning ways stopped Sept. 27 after a trip to Oxford, Mississippi ended in a 24-19 loss to Ole Miss. The Tigers will look to bounce back at home against USC before a stretch of three games against currently ranked opponents.

Players to watch: Gamecocks and Tigers

South Carolina

Matthew Fuller, RB: Fuller, a redshirt freshman, had a quiet start to the year before getting his first real shot against the Wildcats. He led the team in carries with 19 rushes for 48 yards and a touchdown. USC has struggled with the run in 2025, and may continue to lean on Fuller in an attempt to ignite its rushing offense.

Bryan Thomas Jr., edge rusher: The senior pass rusher had a career game against Kentucky, recording a career-high two sacks and seven tackles. He earned SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors for his performance. LSU will likely put an immense effort toward stopping fellow edge rusher Dylan Stewart, which could leave lanes open for Thomas to disrupt the Tigers’ offense.

LSU

Garrett Nussmeier, QB: A Lake Charles, Louisiana product and a second-year starter for the Tigers, Nussmeier was tabbed as a potential Heisman candidate before the season. He’s completed 115 passes for 1,159 yards and seven touchdowns this year but has thrown three interceptions. He had his worst game of the season against the Rebels, finishing with 21 completions for 197 yards, a touchdown and a pick. He’ll be looking to bounce back against the Gamecocks.

Whit Weeks, LB: Weeks is a leader on the Tigers defense as a junior after a breakout year in 2024, where he finished with 120 tackles and 3.5 sacks. He’s had a slow start to 2025 but recorded a season-high 10 tackles against Ole Miss.
