Dylan Stewart injured, declared out of South Carolina-Oklahoma game
South Carolina’s defense took a big hit early into Saturday’s game against Oklahoma.
Defensive end standout and preseason All-American Dylan Stewart left the game during the first drive of the game. SEC Network sideline reporter Alyssa Lang said Stewart’s injury was a hip flexor.
Stewart walked off the field slowly before going into the medical tent with USC training staff. Shortly after that, he headed to the locker room. Lang said they iced the hip area, and Stewart spent time on the exercise bike trying to loosen it up.
Stewart returned to the game with 12:51 left in the second quarter for one play before leaving again. It appeared Stewart and Oklahoma players said something to each other and Stewart had to be nudged by trainers to keep walking off the field.
After that, Stewart took off his shoulder pads and his day was done, according to the broadcast.
Desmond Umeozulu and Jatius Geer were rotating in there for Stewart at his left defensive end spot.
Oklahoma led the game 14-7 at the half.
Stewart, a former five-star prospect, had a big freshman season and earned Southeastern Conference first-team honors. Through six games this season, he had 27 tackles and a team-high 9.5 tackles for loss and team-leading 3.5 sacks.
