South Carolina has lost one of its 2026 commits.

On Sunday evening, Rivals reported that USC tight end pledge Jamel Howse decommitted from the Gamecocks.

The 6-foot-3, 238-pound from Newberry is a four-star prospect, per the 247 Sports Composite Rankings, and listed as the No. 6 prospect in South Carolina and the No. 13 tight end in the nation.

“I wanna go somewhere where I can get the ball,” Howse told The State on Sunday.

A Shrine Bowl selection, Howse has been committed to South Carolina for over a year but has recently been looking around.

He took an official visit to Appalachian State on Oct 4., which is notable considering the Mountaineers are led by former Gamecocks offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains, who was leading the USC offense when Howse committed last October. Howse is also expected to take an unofficial visit to App State next month.

As a senior for Newberry High this season, Howse has caught 32 passes for 392 yards and 4 touchdowns.
