Top storylines for the game
Can the offense build on a positive showing? Though South Carolina lost, the Gamecocks’ offense showed some signs of life against Alabama. The Gamecocks totaled 333 yards of offense against the Crimson Tide. That mark is the second-highest for South Carolina in 2025.
Need another strong defensive showing: Part of why South Carolina was able to take Alabama down to the wire last week was Clayton White’s defense. The Gamecocks held Alabama to just 11 yards in the first quarter and forced a turnover. South Carolina will need to replicate its first-half defensive performance against another high-powered offense in Ole Miss if the Gamecocks want to pull off the upset.
Trying to get back in the win column: A loss to Ole Miss would give the Gamecocks a four-game losing streak. South Carolina has only lost four games in a row once during Shane Beamer’s tenure. That came during the 2023 season when the Gamecocks finished 5-7.
South Carolina and Ole Miss players to watch
South Carolina DB Vicari Swain: Swain logged his highest Pro Football Focus defensive grade of the season against Alabama (72.8) after he logged two tackles and only gave up 11 receiving yards in the game. Swain also had a strip sack in a pivotal moment against Alabama.
South Carolina RB Matt Fuller: Fuller has slowly seen his playing time increase in the last three weeks. He played a season-high 34 snaps against Alabama last week, per PFF, and logged 12 carries, though he totaled just 19 rushing yards.
Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss: The Rebels’ starting QB has one of the best stories of the 2025 college football season. Chambliss transferred to Ole Miss after four years at Division-II Ferris State and took over as the starter after Austin Simmons got hurt. Since his first start, Ole Miss is 5-1. Chambliss has totaled 2,240 yards of offense and 14 touchdowns while only throwing one interception.
Ole Miss RB Kewan Lacy: The sophomore is one of the best running backs in the SEC this year. Lacy is No. 4 in the conference with 696 rushing yards and leads the SEC with 12 rushing touchdowns.
