The nail in the coffin

There’s still 5:44 left in the game but this one feels all but done.

South Carolina turned the ball over on downs after Sellers was sacked on 4th and 17. It was the third sack of that drive for Ole Miss.

One play later, the Rebels extended their lead with a 54-yard touchdown rush from Lacy. He now has 163 rushing yards on the night.

There’s still time on the clock put it looks like South Carolina will need a miracle to pull off the comeback.

Gamecock enters injury tent

South Carolina defensive back Vicari Swain entered the injury tent after the first play of the fourth quarter.

Swain got rolled up on by an Ole Miss offensive player and remained down on the field for a bit, but walked off under his own power with no noticeable limp.

The Gamecocks have remained relatively injury free in the game.

Swain exited the injury tent a few minutes later and returned to the sideline with the Gamecocks.

Another muffed punt!

The second muffed punt of the game happened in the third quarter. This time, however, it was the Gamecocks who couldn’t handle the punt return.

South Carolina forced Ole Miss to punt the ball from plus territory, but Jalon Kilgore fumbled the punt return. The blunder gave the Rebels the ball at South Carolina’s 13-yard line.

Lucky for the Gamecocks, Ole Miss’ offense couldn’t score a touchdown and had to settle for a field goal.

Gamecocks score to start second half

South Carolina was able to put an end to its abysmal run of offense on its first offensive drive of the second half.

Sellers threw an interception but was bailed out by a defensive pass interference that waived the play off. A few plays later he found Harbor wide open downfield for a 47-yard touchdown pass.

The catch gave Harbor his fourth receiving touchdown of the year, marking a new career-high.

A quick look at the halftime stats

Ole Miss takes a 17-7 lead over South Carolina into halftime.

The Rebels are out gunning the Gamecocks on offense through the first half. Ole Miss has 277 total offensive yards compared to South Carolina’s 93 yards. The Rebels’ offensive production is split between 175 rushing yards and 102 passing yards, respectively. In comparison, the Gamecocks have 26 rushing yards and 67 passing yards.

Ole Miss is averaging 7.3 yards per play to South Carolina’s 3.2 yards per play. Ole Miss is 3-for-4 on fourth downs but 0-for-5 on third downs. South Carolina is 1-for-6 on third downs. The Gamecocks have punted on four of their six drives, the other two ended in a score and a turnover on downs.

Rebels’ running back Kewan Lacy leads all rushers with 101 rushing yards in the first half. Gamecock defensive back DQ Smith leads the game with six total tackles.

Gamecocks get a turnover but not much else

South Carolina came up with an interception with under two minutes to go in the first half.

Chambliss dropped back to pass and fired a deep ball that landed in the arms of Jalon Kilgore.

The pick is Kilgore’s first of the season and just the second of the year for Chambliss. The last time Chambliss threw an interception was against LSU in September.

South Carolina took over at its own 18-yard line after the pick but immediately went three-and-out.

Muffed punt leads to points

South Carolina’s offense got another shot at life thanks to an Ole Miss special teams blunder.

The Gamecocks went three and out to start the game, forcing Mason Love out to punt. Ole Miss returner Harrison Wallace III couldn’t handle the return and South Carolina’s Maurice Brown II recovered the fumble.

South Carolina took over at the Ole Miss 16-yard line as a result and was able to score a few plays later.

Early fake for Ole Miss

Lane Kiffin and the Rebels gave the Gamecocks a bit of their own special teams medicine on the first drive of the game.

Ole Miss lined up to punt on 4th and 10, seemingly about to go three-and-out to start the game, but punter Oscar Bird kept it himself and ran 18 yards for a first down.

The fake kept the drive alive for a few more plays, but Ole Miss eventually turned the ball over on downs at the South Carolina 35-yard line.

Stewart on the field to start

It appears the game time decision has been made.

Star edge rusher Dylan Stewart was on the field to start the game for the Gamecocks.

The final injury report

South Carolina star edge rusher Dylan Stewart is a game time decision, according to Saturday’s final SEC availability report for the game. It wasn’t immediately known what exactly Stewart is dealing with, but he left the game against Oklahoma two weeks ago with a hip injury.

Defensive back Buddy Mack III, wide receiver Jayden Sellers and offensive lineman Cason Henry are all listed as out for the Gamecocks.

South Carolina’s captains against Ole miss are defensive lineman Nick Barrett, defensive back Brandon Cisse, tight end Brady Hunt and quarterback LaNorris Sellers.
