South Carolina head football coach Shane Beamer has found his newest offensive line coach.

The Gamecocks officially announced the hiring of Randy Clements on Thursday. He replaced Lonnie Teasley, who was fired in October after coaching the offensive line for three seasons.

Clements contract is for the next two years. He’ll be paid $725,000 a year.

Here are five things to know about Clements.

Meet Randy Clements

Clements, 59, is leaving his job as an offensive line assistant at TCU to come to Columbia.

The Wichita Falls, Texas native was an All-Conference player at Tyler Junior College before transferring to Stephen F. Austin, where he graduated from in 1989.

Clements was a member of the Lumberjacks team that made it to the Division I-AA quarterfinals in 1988.

He has a wife named Polly and two children named Jordan and Jayson.

Coaching history

Clements brings over 30 years of coaching experience that includes trips to nearly 20 bowl games .

He got his start in coaching as a student assistant with the offensive line at Stephen F. Austin in the 1986 and 1987 seasons.

Clements then spent the next 12 seasons (1990-2002) at Stephenville High School. He worked as the offensive line coach, head powerlifting coach and offensive coordinator during his time with Stephenville.

Clements made the jump back to the college level in 2003 when he started a five-year tenure as the offensive line coach at Houston.

His first Power 5 gig came with Baylor from 2008 to 2016. There, Clements was the co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach from 2008 to 2011 and the run game coordinator and offensive line coach from 2012 to 2016.

The next four years of Clements’ career were full of one-year pit stops at four different schools. He was the offensive line coach at Southeastern University in 2017, made a return to Houston as the run game coordinator and offensive line coach in 2018, was the offensive line coach at Florida State in 2019 and was the run game coordinator and offensive line coach at Ole Miss in 2020.

Clements spent the next two years at North Texas. He started as a volunteer in 2021 and was the offensive line coach in 2022.

Clements was the offensive line coach at North Carolina for two years from 2023 to 2024 and spent 2025 as an assistant offensive line coach at TCU.

Notable players he’s coached

Clements has had his hand in developing several star offensive linemen during his coaching career.

He helped Corey Gaynor, Willie Lampkin and Spencer Rolland all earn All-ACC honors at North Carolina.

During his run at Baylor he helped players earn 13 All-Big 12 and six All-America selections. Clements also produced eight NFL Draft picks.

The highest-drafted player was Jason Smith, who was taken with the second overall pick in the 2009 draft by the Rams. Clements also helped turn Danny Watkins into a first-round pick after he was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles with the No. 23 overall pick in the 2011 draft.

The Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year was a Baylor player for four straight years (2012-15) under Clements’ tutelage.

How his units performed

It’s no secret South Carolina has struggled to have consistent offensive line play during Beamer’s tenure as head coach (and arguably beyond that). The Gamecocks allowed 3.58 sacks per game in 2025, which was dead last in the SEC and No. 132 in the country.

At nearly every stop of his career, Clements has had his hand in helping a team rank in the top 25 nationally in like total offense and rushing offense.

TCU allowed 1.58 sacks a game in 2025 — ranking the Horned Frogs offensive line at No. 5 in the Big 12 and top 50 nationally.

At North Carolina, Clements’ offensive line unit helped put together seasons that saw the Tar Heels ranked in the top 25 nationally in total offense and rushing yards per game. He did the same during his time at North Texas.

In 2020, under the direction of Clements, Ole Miss led the SEC with 210.6 rushing yards per game.

During Clements’ tenure at Baylor, the Bears led the nation in total offense and scoring for three consecutive years from 2013-15. Baylor was the first to achieve the feat since BYU (1979-1981).

Connections to the staff

Clements and Beamer haven’t coached together during their respective coaching careers. That being said, Clements has a strong connection with South Carolina’s new offensive coordinator, Kendal Briles.

The ties start during Briles’ playing days.

Briles was a wide receiver at Houston during Clements tenure as an offensive line coach. Briles and Clements were both assistants at Baylor from 2008 to 2016. Briles worked his way up from wide receivers coach to offensive coordinator and was the passing game coordinator while Clements was the run game coordinator.

The two coached together at Houston in 2018 and Florida State in 2019. Briles was the offensive coordinator at both schools while Clements was the offensive line coach, respectively.

The two reunited at TCU in 2025.
