USC QB Watch: Mangus grows tired of answering same question

I bet G.A. Mangus had a withering glare under his sunglasses.

“Y’all going to keep calling me over here with all that,” he muttered on Tuesday. “Head coach will tell you that.”

Can you guess what the question was?

If you said, “Who’s the starting quarterback?” you’d be right.

The scrimmage on Saturday revealed some things (Connor Mitch graded out well) and Steve Spurrier says that there’s no rush to name a starting quarterback, although they’ll start giving more reps to the guys who look like they’re going to play. We know about as much now as we did before Practice No. 1 – there isn’t a definite starter, although freshman Lorenzo Nunez is likely to play in some fashion.

The scrimmage was almost all passing to give every QB some work, and that’s good and bad – it allowed the defense to rush at all times since it wasn’t concerned about giving up a draw run, and miscommunication among the younger players became an issue. But that was expected, and viewed, and graded.

The QBs remain equal, and unless someone gets hurt, they’ll stay that way until game week.

“We still got a whole bunch of coaching to do,” Spurrier said. “A whole bunch of coaching.”
