South Carolina defensive back staying put after initial transfer report
South Carolina defensive back Jalewis Solomon is not entering the transfer portal, according to a report by Gamecock Central on Tuesday night.
That news comes a few hours after an initial report by On3’s Hayes Fawcett a few hours earlier which stated that Solomon was planning to enter the transfer portal. That post has now been deleted.
If Solomon returns, he will be a redshirt sophomore for the Gamecocks in 2026
A former four-star cornerback prospect from Georgia, Solomon committed to South Carolina in October 2023 and was a major get for coach Shane Beamer.
Per the 247 Sports’ Composite Rankings, Solomon was ranked as the No. 7 cornerback recruit in the country and was the sixth-highest-rated prospect to sign with the Gamecocks in 2024.
The 6-foot-1, 187-pound CB enrolled that summer, hardly played in 2024 and took his redshirt season.
Last year, injuries helped him see the field early, but he only played in four games, making just two tackles.
