How South Carolina’s football attendance fared in 2025 through 4-8 season
You did not need to watch South Carolina in 2023 to know the Gamecocks were having a down year. You just needed to see views of the crowd.
The Gamecocks entered November 2023 at 2-6 overall and, aside from the season finale against Clemson, Williams-Brice Stadium wasn’t packed to the gills like usual. Granted, it didn’t help that the Gamecocks played Jacksonville State and SEC doormats Kentucky and Vanderbilt, or that the game times and weather were less than ideal.
And, well, that’s what made the 2024 season so special. It wasn’t just that South Carolina was winning at a much higher rate , but Willy-B (capacity of 77,559) was packed every Saturday.
Though South Carolina reported similar attendance figures publicly in 2023 and 2024, the number of tickets scanned — or rather, the amount of people actually inside the stadium — varied greatly.
Per documents obtained by The State, South Carolina averaged 58,294 scans (a more accurate reflection of how many people actually showed up) in 2023. A year later, as the Gamecocks rolled to a nine-win season, nearly 66,000 people scanned tickets into the stadium every gameday.
Which brings us to 2025. South Carolina, with hopes and expectations of a 10-win season, floundered to a 4-8 finish. Did people still show up to Williams-Brice and show their support?
Well, yes. Just not as many as the year prior.
South Carolina reported publicly that the total attendance for the 2025 season was 555,340 people — that’s almost identical to the school’s figure for the Gamecocks 2024 season. (The prior season, 2023, was reported at 544,849.)
Yet, those attendance figures take into account the number of tickets sold and such things as student tickets downloaded, comped tickets, band members and even workers at the stadium. If you want the best picture of how many people showed up and used their tickets for each game, you look at scan counts.
And for the 2025 season, South Carolina scanned an average of 63,631 tickets per game, according to records obtained by The State. That’s a 3.3% decline from 2024 (65,798) but still more than a 9% increase from the 2023 season (58,194).
The most-attended game was the season finale against Clemson (69,740), which was also the second-most scanned game at Williams-Brice Stadium since 2019.
On the other hand, a season-low 52,536 tickets were scanned for the home opener against S.C. State, but it’s important to note that game was delayed for nearly two-and-a-half hours due to heavy rain and lightning in the area.
Knowing what the Gamecocks’ final record was, the attendance was likely aided by some big-name opponents in Oklahoma, Alabama and Clemson later in the season.
