South Carolina, NC State canceling future football series? Here’s what we know
South Carolina is set to lose two more games from its future non-conference schedule.
The home-and-home football series between South Carolina and N.C. State — originally slated for 2030 and 2031 — is expected to be cancelled, though a university source told The State on Monday that the cancellation has yet to be finalized.
The Wolfpacker was the first to report the news, adding that the Gamecocks and Wolfpack mutually agreed to cancel the series — meaning that neither school has to pay the $500,000 cancellation fee that was outlined in the original contract, which was signed in June 2020.
This comes in the wake of the SEC and ACC announcing they’re shifting to nine-game conference schedules moving forward, which has triggered South Carolina to proactively cancel a trio of future non-conference series against Power-4 schools not named Clemson: Miami (2026, 2027), Virginia Tech (2034, 2035) and now NC State.
The lone Power-4 home-and-home series still on South Carolina’s schedule is with North Carolina, which would have the Tar Heels come to Williams-Brice Stadium in 2028 with the Gamecocks making a return trip in 2029. Per a USC source, that contract is still on the books.
