This Gamecocks starting offensive lineman is likely to miss the 2026 season
Another South Carolina offensive lineman has suffered a major injury.
On Tuesday, head coach Shane Beamer announced that OL Josiah Thompson will likely miss the 2026 season.
Beamer said that Thompson’s injuries “goes back to a couple years ago,” and a procedure was going to have to happen at some point.
That news comes a few weeks after N.C. State transfer offensive lineman Jacarrius Peak injured his knee during USC’s 3-on-3 basketball tournament. Beamer said he will be out for, at least, the entire spring.
On Tuesday, a day before the Gamecocks will hit the field for their first of 15 spring practices, head coach Shane Beamer announced the list of players who won’t participate because of injuries.
Outside of Thompson and Peak, Beamer said, DT Caleb Williams and OL Jake Recker will be out.
Those who will be limited during the spring are: DB Jackson Burger, WR Jayden Gibson, edge Kobby Sakyi-Prah, edge Jaquavious Dodd, DB Zahbari Sandy, edge George Wilson and edge Dylan Stewart, who was dealing with an injury towards the end of the 2025 season.
