Heath Cline: Count on Spurrier finding an offense
Between now and the season-opener against North Carolina on Sept. 3, we will ask 50 people: “What do you think about the Gamecocks in 2015?” We’re counting down the days until kickoff. Today’s panelist is Heath Cline, radio host on 107.5 The Game:
“I don’t think I have ever covered a team with a coach who has been in place as long as Steve Spurrier has here that we have known less about. We are genuinely flying as blind on this team as I can remember, but I know one thing – Spurrier will always have an offense somehow. When he had Syvelle Newton as his quarterback, I bet you absolutely nobody before the season said, ‘Hey, I bet you Spurrier will put Syvelle Newton as his quarterback and run him around.’ He will find an offense, and he will find receivers. Whether it’s Deebo Samuel, who everybody talks about, Terry Googer, whether it’s somebody none of us know – Spurrier will find at least two people and make them productive wide receivers as part of his offense, too. It’s Spurrier, and they will always have an offense, so you won’t sell me on anything less than seven.”
