Mike Safran: Rogers statue means good Karma for Gamecocks

Between now and the season-opener against North Carolina on Sept. 3, we will ask 50 people: “What do you think about the Gamecocks in 2015?” We’re counting down the days until kickoff. Today’s panelist is Mike Safran, owner of Safran's Antiques, Interiors and Collectibles in Columbia:

“Memorable teams and memorable seasons have often occurred when perhaps they were not expected. I am reminded of Joe Morrison's 1984 ‘Black Magic’ squad as well as Lou Holtz's 2000 team going 8-4 and defeating the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Outback Bowl after going 0-11 the previous season. The fact that 1980 Heisman Trophy winner George Rogers is having a statue erected to him prior to the first home game can only add more good Karma to the mix. Our future path is built upon the efforts of the past. The Gamecock program has had many great players and great moments to remember and I am sure that the HBC is not done adding to the record book yet.”
