Christopher Thompson: USC needs playmakers to join Pharoh

Between now and the season-opener against North Carolina on Sept. 3, we will ask 50 people: “What do you think about the Gamecocks in 2015?” We’re counting down the days until kickoff. Today’s panelist is Christopher Thompson, sports director, iHeartMedia, Columbia:

“Can Pharoh Cooper play three different positions ... at the same time? Cooper’s a preseason choice for all-SEC all over the field, but he can only do one thing at a time. That’s a problem, because Cooper's the lone proven playmaker on the Gamecock offense. However, we know Steve Spurrier always finds a way to find the end zone. The HBC’s biggest concern may be lack of depth on the O-line; if one of those front 5 go down, there's a big drop-off in terms of experience. The defense will be better, with a bigger push up front and a LB corps that shines. I think the Gamecocks will look like an improved team in 2015; however, given the schedule (especially that brutal stretch starting with LSU in October), the Gamecocks’ record may not reflect that improvement.”
