Spurs & Feathers’ Brian Hand: SEC East is wide open

Before the season-opener against North Carolina on Thursday, we have asked 50 people: “What do you think about the Gamecocks in 2015?” We’re counting down the days until kickoff. Today’s panelist is Brian Hand, editor Spurs & Feathers:

“I definitely understand that a lot of people were frustrated with last year. I was as well, but I always go back to the late 1990s to remind myself that things could be vastly worse and that last year they found a way to battle back and end the year the right way with a bowl win. This year, I feel like the SEC East is wide open. I am not one to really quantify the exact end number, but I feel like the team will surprise many people and will be in the running for the division title. South Carolina with what Jon Hoke is bringing to the fold with the defensive scheme, a refreshed and rejuvenated Steve Spurrier and some exciting newcomers to go along with a pretty strong returning nucleus could have the makings of a solid year.”
