Practice report: Lorenzo Nunez prepares for extended action
As expected, Lorenzo Nunez will play at Georgia this week.
Perhaps a lot.
“Perry (Orth) is getting the most and then I’m getting at least close to half,” Nunez said about his first-team reps on Wednesday. “Coach is talking about me getting in this weekend so I feel good about that.”
Nunez played last week but only as the “Hail Mary” guy to close out the first half. With Orth known more for his arm than his legs, Nunez may be just the QB to give Georgia a different look.
Ready to go
After a hamstring injury limited his practice time and cost him a start, freshman Deebo Samuel should be back in the starting lineup this week.
“Deebo is back,” Steve Spurrier Jr. said. “He’s full-speed, I expect to see him in there. Deebo will be back starting.”
On top
Skai Moore, as usual, is leading the Gamecocks in tackles. He’s also helping lead the nation in interceptions.
Moore’s three picks this year has him tied with five others for the national lead – Illinois’ Taylor Barton, Georgia Southern’s Antonio Glover, West Virginia’s Karl Joseph, San Diego State’s Damontae Kazee and BYU’s Kai Nacua.
Century clubbers
USC had a 100-yard rusher and receiver in the same game for the third time since 2011 on Saturday. Brandon Wilds carried 16 times for 106 yards and Pharoh Cooper caught nine balls for 100 yards.
The last pair to do it? Wilds (143) and Cooper (233) last season against Tennessee.
By the numbers
As usual, the Gamecocks are stocked with Georgia natives. USC has 27 Peach State natives on the roster all aching for a piece of the home-state Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs have two South Carolinians on their roster – Dorchester’s Michael Barnett and Goose Creek’s Tramel Terry.
Togs
The Gamecocks will wear white jerseys and garnet pants against Georgia.
Red Cross report
