USC band not heading to LSU, but Tiger Band will help fill in
Before the South Carolina football team takes the field at LSU for a game moved because of the flooding in Columbia, the players and fans who make the trip will at least hear a familiar tune.
Even without the USC band in the building.
LSU’s band will incorporate South Carolina’s alma mater and fight song into its pregame routine according to a tweet from Jacques Doucet, sports anchor at WAFB in Baton Rouge. Doucet quoted Roy M. King, the Tigers’ band director.
#LSU band is learning South Carolina Gamecocks' alma matter + fight song, plans to incorporate in pregame, per Roy M King. @WAFB
— Jacques Doucet (@JacquesDoucet) October 7, 2015South Carolina’s official band account tweeted the news it would not travel because of logistical challenges involved.
UPDATE: Unfortunately, due to time and travel challenges involved, a pep band will not go to LSU.
— USC Bands (@TheCarolinaBand) October 7, 2015News broke earlier in the day the game was shifting from Williams-Brice to Tiger Stadium in light of the damaged infrastructure in Columbia and already-stressed emergency personnel. According to The Advocate, the newspaper in Baton Rouge, this is likely only the second SEC game moved in the past two decades, joining an LSU-Arizona State game moved because of Hurricane Katrina.
LSU president has told me that their band and fans will pay tribute to our flood victims on Saturday. That is a class act!
