Vegas odds favor Kirby Smart as next USC coach

South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier announced his retirement Tuesday afternoon and shortly thereafter odds were posted in Vegas on who will be the next Gamecocks head coach.

According to Bovada, Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart is the favorite to be the next head coach at South Carolina with 5-2 odds. Interim head coach Shawn Elliott is next at 3-1.

Other names on Bovada’s list of most likely candidates include Memphis head coach Justin Fuente (4-1) and LSU defensive line coach and former Ole Miss head coach Ed Orgeron (4-1).

Western Kentucky head coach Jeff Brohm, Toledo head coach Matt Campbell, Louisiana-Lafayette head coach Mark Hudspeth, Utah State head coach Matt Wells and Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio are also listed as potential replacements for Spurrier.
