THREE CITADEL PLAYERS TO WATCH

1. Dominique Allen: The quarterback has done more damage with his legs than arm this season. He has 692 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns through 10 games. Allen has also completed 42 of 81 passes for 734 yards with four touchdowns and five picks.

2. Mitchell Jeter: The senior from Rock Hill has 11 tackles for loss and eight sacks. He’ll provide a challenge for an offensive line that struggled last week.

3. James Riley: The senior linebacker has been all over the field this year. He leads the Bulldogs in tackles with 77 and is second in tackles for loss with 8.5. Riley has also forced a fumble and intercepted a pass.

FIVE STORY LINES

1. THE WALL

South Carolina limited Florida’s rushing game but was toasted on long passing third downs. The good news is The Citadel will still run on third down. The bad news is the Bulldogs may get enough yards on first and second down so that third down is a matter of inches.

2. EXPERIMENTATION

The Gamecocks have tried to tweak their offense, but Lorenzo Nunez’s mistakes have kept him off the field. Considering the next opponent has problems with an option-oriented quarterback, Nunez would do well to stay on the field this week and show off what he can do.

3. SIEVE

Perry Orth and Brandon Wilds had no chance last week due to Florida’s defensive pressure. While they’re not the Gators, the Bulldogs have 67 tackles for loss and 23 sacks. Those 17 interceptions aren’t good to see, either.

4. WHERE’S YOUR HEAD?

The Gamecocks’ season is going nowhere after Nov. 28, and they all know it. Can a team get fired up to win a meaningless game, considering that one of the two things they have left to fight for – Shawn Elliott being retained – is probably a futile wish? The other thing is winning the rivalry game, which is quite daunting as well.

5. THE 60

Sixty of the 109 listed players on The Citadel’s roster are South Carolina natives. Most of them never had a chance to play at Williams-Brice Stadium outside of a high-school championship game. Now’s their chance to show why they belonged on a big-time field.
