Kurt Roper to join Gamecocks full time after NFL season
Kurt Roper will finish the season with the Cleveland Browns before joining South Carolina full time as the Gamecocks’ offensive coordinator, Browns coach Mike Pettine said Thursday.
Roper is currently an offensive assistant with the Browns. Cleveland (2-10) wraps up its season Jan. 3.
The 43-year-old has already been on the road recruiting for the Gamecocks, joining head coach Will Muschamp and defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson on Wednesday for an in-home visit to quarterback commitment Brandon McIlwain.
Roper served as Muschamp’s offensive coordinator in Muschamp’s final season as Florida’s head coach. The Gators were eighth in the SEC in scoring (30.3 points per game) and 12th in the SEC in total offense (367.6 yards per game) that season.
He also served as Duke’s offensive coordinator before being hired by Muschamp.
