Wide receiver Shaq Davidson has left the South Carolina football team.

A redshirt sophomore from Gaffney, Davidson never played in a game for the Gamecocks. He is expected to transfer.

Davidson signed with USC in 2014 out of Gaffney and redshirted. He tore a knee ligament during preseason practice last season.

He was considered a four-star prospect out of Gaffney High. He played quarterback as a senior, throwing for 1,539 yards and 13 TDs and rushed for 762 yards and seven scores.

Davidson was a Shrine Bowl and U.S. Army All-America Bowl selection.

The Gamecocks have seven scholarship receivers on the roster, with four more signees who will join the team this summer.

Defensive back Chris Moody, a redshirt junior who will graduate in May, announced last month he will transfer from South Carolina and play his final season of eligibility elsewhere.
