Four Gamecocks invited to NFL Combine

Four former South Carolina players will be heading to Indianapolis later this month for the NFL Combine.

Tight end Jerell Adams, wide receiver Pharoh Cooper, offensive tackle Brandon Shell and running back Brandon Wilds all received invitations to the NFL’s annual scouting showcase for draft-eligible players, which begins Feb. 23 in Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Indianapolis Colts.

Cooper, who led the Gamecocks in receiving last year, is expected to be the highest selection among USC products in this year’s draft. Adams, however, had a strong showing during the week leading up the Senior Bowl and will get a lot of attention at the Combine. South Carolina’s on-campus pro timing day is March 30.

Alabama led all SEC teams with nine invitees this year, while Auburn, Florida and Georgia each has eight.

Eight former Clemson players received invitations, including projected first-round picks defensive back Mackensie Alexander and defensive ends Kevin Dodd and Shaq Lawson.

Two South Carolina State products were invited – tackle Javon Hargrave and tight end Temarrick Hemingway.
