Reports: Spurrier Jr. in running for job at Florida
A Spurrier could be coaching again at Florida.
Steve Spurrier Jr. is in the running to be an offensive quality control assistant for coach Jim McElwain’s staff, according to GridironNow.com.
Spurrier Jr. spent the past 11 seasons as an assistant under his father at South Carolina, most recently as co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers/recruiting coordinator.
McElwain is looking for a replacement for Marquel Blackwell, who left the offensive quality control assistant post last week and who is expected to be the running back coach at Toledo, the site reported.
The new offensive quality control assistant would work with Florida offensive coordinator/quarterback coach Doug Nussmeier.
Florida opens spring practice March 9.
Spurrier Jr. worked on the support staff at Florida in the mid-1990s. He also coached at Arizona, Oklahoma and in the NFL with the Washington Redskins.
