Brandon Wilds solid, Brandon Shell injured in NFL Combine drills
South Carolina’s Brandon Wilds and Brandon Shell got their chance to take the field for drills at the NFL Combine on Friday.
Wilds, a running back, had hoped to break 4.5 in the 40-yard dash, but was clocked at 4.54. That was the 11th-fastest time among the running backs, and the same time posted by Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry of Alabama.
Wilds did 21 repetitions of 225 pounds on the bench press, the seventh-highest total among the running backs. He was sixth in the vertical jump at 36.5 inches, eighth in the three-cone drill with a time of 7.08 seconds, ninth in 60-yard shuttle with a time 11.75 and he had a 36.5-inch vertical jump and 118-inch broad jump.
Shell did not have as good a day.
His broad jump of 112 inches was the third-best among offensive line, but he suffered an injury during his 40-yard dash (which was timed at 5.22 seconds) and did not complete any more drills. Shell told The Post & Courier in Charleston that the injury was to his quadriceps muscle.
USC wide receiver Pharoh Cooper and tight end Jerell Adams are set to work out Saturday at the Combine.
