USC reveals football position changes, freshmen jersey numbers

South Carolina, with its latest update of the spring football roster, revealed the jersey numbers for the six on-campus freshmen who enrolled in January.

The roster update also shows several position changes for the Gamecocks, who begin their spring practices next Tuesday, March 15:

Freshmen jersey numbers

▪  Brandon McIlwain, QB: 11

▪  Bryan Edwards, WR: 89

▪  C.J. Freeman, RB: 36

▪  Chris Smith, CB: 31

▪  Kobe Smith, DT: 97

▪  Keir Thomas, DE: 18

Position changes

▪  Jamari Smith, a junior, is back at running back after stints at cornerback and, briefly, at wide receiver. He signed in 2013 as a running back. He has not had a carry since the 2013 season.

▪  Junior Ulric Jones, previously listed as a defensive end, is now listed at defensive tackle. Jones finished last year as a tight end/offensive lineman.

▪  Sophomore Boosie Whitlow, who played defensive end last year, is now listed as an outside linebacker.

▪  Sophomore Hayden Hurst, who ended last year at wide receiver, is now listed as a tight end.
