Darin Smalls, a redshirt freshman safety from Summerville, has left South Carolina’s football team.

Smalls hasn’t played in a game for the Gamecocks, and didn’t appear on the team’s two-deep depth chart entering spring practice.

Smalls, 5-foot-11, 190 pounds, was considered a three-star prospect as a cornerback coming out of Summerville High. He originally signed in 2014, but did not enroll because of a knee injury suffered in high school.

He enrolled in school in January of 2015 and practiced at the spur position last year.

He becomes the sixth scholarship player to leave the team since Will Muschamp became coach, joining defensive lineman David Johnson, linebacker Ernest Hawkins, cornerback Al Harris Jr. and wide receivers D.J. Neal and Shaq Davidson.
